Meet the 2014 Sambassadors

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

The SAMFund is proud to have more than 500 past grant recipients in our alumni network. To better engage and serve the vibrant, diverse community of young adult cancer survivors, we have asked those alumni able to commit more time and energy to serve as Sambassadors. This group will work with our staff, Alumni Leadership Council, and other volunteers to help The SAMFund expand our community outreach efforts, and enable us to reach and support more survivors across the nation.

We are so excited to see what these dynamos can do, and thrilled to introduce the inaugural class of 2014 Sambassadors!

“I am a proud SAMFund alumnus and non-Hodgkins Lymphoma survivor from Buffalo, NY. When not at my day-to-day administrative job, I pursue my true loves as a classically-trained singer and salsa dancing fanatic. During my encounter with cancer and treatment, I was struck by how small, simple gestures could have a big impact. As a new Sambassador, I hope that I can connect and support other survivors in small simple ways.”

I love telling other survivors about The SAMFund and how it positively impacted my life. Since I’m already working with various networks spreading Testicular Cancer Foundation’s message, it would be great to include The SAMFund as well. I have plans to attend survivorship conferences and events as well as various public speaking engagements this year and think it would be awesome to share what The SAMFund is all about during my travels.”

“The SAMFund does something for young adult cancer survivors that no one else really does. They give us an opportunity to move forward, past the bills and obstacles that stand between us and our post-treatment lives. I am so happy to be able to help spread the word about this great organization and community.”

“I’m excited to be a Sambassador because I am passionate about young adult cancer survivorship issues.  The SAMFund transformed my life at a critical time and gave me hope for my future.  It is important to me to be able to advocate for others facing similar challenges.”

“I want to help provide the feeling of ineffiable joy that I felt when learning that I received your grant to other young adult cancer survivors. Without question, the grant saved me and I want others to have the hope of a new beginning after cancer too. As SAMFund grant receipient, I’ve finally had a chance to breathe.”
