“Paying medical bills was extremely difficult, and without a job, things got even worse. Even with insurance, the bills were overwhelming and unbearable. I was unable to afford rent so I became homeless and was forced to live out of my car. I ended up living in my car for four months as I tried to handle the medical bills and find employment…When I last applied I was living in an older couple's basement looking for permanent housing. I knew I only had a few months left and I could not afford the housing around school. The timing of The SAMFund grant could not have been more perfect. I was to move out in December and with the housing grant I moved onto campus in January! The SAMFund kept me from once again being homeless.”
