San Francisco, CA
survivor of invasive duct cancer
“I am extremely proud of what I have accomplished and for the hardships I have overcome in the last year. But I want to do more than just live through it. I want to thrive. As someone in the helping profession, it feels strange to be in a place of seeking, rather than providing, assistance. I am someone who has always found it easier to think about helping others rather than helping myself. My cancer diagnosis has forced me to focus more on my own health and well-being and I feel the positive results. I am eager to continue finding ways to reclaim my life. As I face the daily financial realities of car insurance, student loans, rent, utilities payments, and a dwindling savings account, however, it has become clear to me that achieving my goals will require some assistance. A grant from The SAMFund will give me that extra financial push...so I can accomplish my goal of fully healing both my body and my mind.”
