Mount Airy, MD
survivor of breast cancer
“My doctors had no idea how to treat me. One oncologist said, "We don't know what to do with you-- young women don't get breast cancer." When I asked another if the chemo drugs he was prescribing would make me infertile, expressing my strong desire to have more children one day, he responded, "Do you want to live or do you want to have children? Because that is the choice you need to make." When I explained that I wanted to live and have more children, he wrote me off as being immature and naïve. I started talking to other young survivors and realized that my issues with body image, fertility, and the lack of evidence-based treatment modalities were not unique.”
