“Financial support from The SAMFund will ease some of the burden that my cancer treatment has inflicted. At the time of my diagnosis, my student loans provided for my tuition and a modest living allowance that ran out at the end of the semester (my first month of treatment). Another small loan, acquired to cover the costs of residency relocation went towards basic living expenses, co-pays, and medication costs for the remainder of my treatment. Unfortunately, a residency placement cannot be deferred and I had to relinquish my spot when I could not begin on time [due to my diagnosis]... Application and interview costs will generate even more expense. Any assistance I can receive will alleviate the mounting debt I have specifically as a result of my cancer diagnosis and give me the best chance of moving forward with my life.”
