Birdsboro, PA
survivor of multiple myeloma
"With the scholarships and grants [from The SAMFund], I'll have the chance to get on with the business of living, which is infinitely more interesting than being sick... With this financial boost, I'll be back to living better, less shackled to bills and the almost unbearable financial pressure that came with diagnosis.
It's true that money can't buy happiness. But it does help move forward, to achieve the goals that you set for yourself. For me, finishing school and moving on involves more than just a job or a degree in the future. It involves sharing my story, speaking with a clear, confident voice about the fear and the hope that comes with cancer. The disease places you squarely in a community that you never would have chosen for yourself, and I acutely feel that responsibility. Whether fundraising, posting on a message board, marching for awareness in the state capital, or simply listening to another cancer survivor's story, I find myself not only involved, but always actively so. It is this affirmation, the tiny, positive steps, that makes life after cancer so exciting and so full of hope and dreams."
