South Lake Tahoe, CA
survivor of Myelodysplastic Syndrome
"One of the hardest things about being sick is the financial side. In my case I can't go to work for at least another year because of the medications I'm on, so basically we lost my income and our living expenses went up drastically because of all of the medical expenses. Financial from the SAMFund would help me to go back to school which would help me to reach my goal of becoming a Social Worker. It would also help me to pay my medical bills and prescription costs that create a monthly financial burden...
I wake up everyday with the same thought; I have truly been given a gift. For the last two years I have seen people young and old die from cancer, I have watched people be diagnosed, go through treatment, and be told they are in remission, and I have watch people struggle with the everyday management of being a survivor. I know in my heart that this is the path I was meant to be on. I have a chance to help people and really make a difference in their lives. With the help of The SAMFund I will be able to fulfill my educational goals and help members of my community become cancer thrivers."
