The 2015 Graham Family Foundation Award

This year, thanks to a generous donation by The Graham Family Foundation, we are proud to honor these three amazing young adults survivors of Hodgkin’s lymphoma with the first ever Graham Family Foundation Grants:

Joseph Siegel

Survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

“The grant has been a huge help because it has provided me with a few months of relief from some of my larger bills. That has freed up money to pay more of my credit card debt… I am almost finished with my BA degree in psychology and I feel that I would have so much to offer the world by specializing in counseling cancer patients and their families.”

“I will never forget the call I received a few weeks before Christmas to let me know I would be awarded help with two months of rent. It literally brought me to tears. Not only was it my first Christmas in remission after my transplant, but it was also the first Christmas I did not have to take out a loan just to get by since I was first diagnosed with cancer.”

“I can’t find words quite capable of expressing just how grateful I am for the generosity of donors like [the Graham family] who make those grants possible…

I will celebrate my 34th birthday later this month. That’s a milestone I wasn’t sure I’d get to see. I’ve seen my daughter grow and blossom. She’ll start high school next year! I feel like each of these years is a precious gift and we’re making so much more of it now. Cancer is crippling in so many ways. Financially, of course, but so much more than just that. Our SAMFund grant wasn’t just money. It meant we got our independence back. We regained our own space (and I’ll be honest, a bit of dignity). I’ve been able to take a part-time job at a library (which I love) since I’ve gotten my grant. It’s helped restore my confidence, my quality of life, and my happiness. We have a long way to go, but I feel like our grant has helped us to get so far in such a positive direction.”
